Waterfront Sophistication in St. Michaels
Nestled along the serene coastline of St. Michaels, Maryland, this stunning waterfront transformation by Eastern Shore Drafting & Design represents the pinnacle of coastal luxury and structural artistry. Originally a comprehensive renovation and addition, this project involved extensive demolition—including the removal of bearing walls and the original two-story fireplace—to create an open, airy sanctuary that prioritizes breathtaking views of the Miles River.

St. Michaels, Maryland—a town synonymous with maritime history and the quiet luxury of the Miles River—has long been a canvas for architectural excellence. This project began with a reimagining. How a traditional waterfront property can be reimagined through a bold, modern lens.To achieve the sprawling, open-concept layout required for modern coastal living, our build team undertook a massive demolition phase. This included removing existing kitchen fixtures, flooring, and a two-story fireplace system, as well as several load-bearing walls to clear sightlines toward the water.
Standing on the banks of the river, the home makes an immediate statement. Moving away from traditional white siding, the exterior features Certainteed Plank painted in a semi-gloss Sherwin Williams Black. This dark palette provides a striking contrast against the lush Maryland landscape and the blue of the Miles River. The roofline is a sophisticated mix of textures, combining Certainteed Landmark asphalt shingles with Snap-Clad 24-gauge galvanized steel over the sunroom and roof crickets. Underneath the aesthetics, the home is built for the elements, supported by new 24″ x 24″ x 12″ footings and a robust first-floor beam system.

Inside, the 3,878-square-foot residence..
balances high-performance utility with artisan finishes. A true Chef’s Kitchen, outfitted with Showplace maple cabinetry topped with pristine Quartz countertops. The kitchen features a Monogram 36″ induction cooktop, a 48″ custom panel refrigerator, and an electronic convection wall oven. The great room serves as the home’s anchor, featuring custom site-built cabinetry and a Signature series stone fireplace with a custom-carved hearth. Traditional 3-1/4″ Red Oak hardwood runs throughout the main living areas, providing a warm, organic counterbalance to the home’s modern elements. The layout is masterfully split between social and private zones. The first floor includes a primary suite with views of the water, a dedicated home office, and a mudroom designed for the practicalities of coastal life. The second floor provides a loft and two additional bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, ensuring guests enjoy the same level of luxury as the homeowners.
